Astros Turn Errors Into Eighth-Inning Rally to Defeat Royals

Heads-Up Houston Makes the Most of Late Kansas City Mishaps

Back-To-Back Blunders Pave the Way for Four-Run Astros Surge

After seven quiet innings, the Houston Astros pounced on a pair of costly Kansas City Royals errors to fuel a four-run eighth inning and secure a 6-3 victory on Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park.

With the game tied 2-2, the Astros loaded the bases with one out against Royals reliever Arodys Vizcaíno. Chas McCormick then hit a ground ball to shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., who fielded it cleanly but made an errant throw to third, allowing Yordan Alvarez to score the go-ahead run.

The next batter, Jeremy Peña, hit a hard grounder to second baseman Nicky Lopez, who bobbled the ball, allowing another run to cross the plate. Mauricio Dubón followed with a single to center, driving in two more runs and giving the Astros a 6-2 lead.

  • The Royals managed to scratch one run across in the ninth inning off Astros closer Ryan Pressly, but it wasn't enough to overcome the earlier deficit.
  • The Astros improved to 27-25 on the season, while the Royals fell to 22-29.
  • Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for Houston.
  • Kansas City starter Brady Singer allowed two runs on five hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings.

The Astros will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday when they host the Royals in the second game of the three-game series.
