How to Bake the Perfect Banana Bread

Ingredients:

* 1 cup mashed ripe bananas * 1/2 cup granulated sugar * 1/2 cup packed brown sugar * 1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature * 1 large egg * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract * 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour * 1 teaspoon baking powder * 1/2 teaspoon baking soda * 1/4 teaspoon salt * 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.

2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Stir in the sugars, butter, egg, and vanilla extract.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

4. Fold in the walnuts, if desired. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

5. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
